Nov. 5 Next Council Meeting

The next meeting of the Watershed Council will be on Thursday, November 5, 2015, from 9am to 11am, in the Topping Room of the EP Foster Library, 651 E. Main Street.

Agenda highlights: We will be setting the stage for the Council in 2016 with discussions on how to move forward with implementation of the Ventura River Watershed Management Plan, sharing expectations for the Council and watershed coordinator, and planning topics for the remainder of our meetings this year. We will also hear from Jeff Palmer of Ojai Valley Sanitary District about a pilot technology to reduce nitrates in effluent.

Oct. 28th Healthy San Antonio Creek Campaign Meeting
The Ojai Valley Green Coalition is hosting a watershed special focus meeting this Wednesday, October 28th from 5:30 to 6:30pm at the Ojai Valley Green Coalition Resource Center, 206 Signal St., Suite S, Ojai, CA 93023

All stakeholders interested in the San Antonio Creek subwatershed are invited to come and discuss progress toward the campaign objectives achieved since 2013 and talk about ways to continue working together to obtain funding and implement critical projects and programs in this important area of our watershed.

Grant Funding Available for Urban Waters

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is currently accepting proposals for The Urban Waters Small Grant Program. The mission of EPA’s Urban Waters Program is to help local residents and their organizations, particularly those in underserved communities, restore their urban waters in ways that also benefit community and economic revitalization. Find out more with this Fact Sheet.

Proposals are due on November 20, 2015. You can download the Request for Proposals (RFP) and get more information about the program on the Environmental Protection Agency Urban Waters Website.

Take a Tour of Our Local Water Supply System

The Annual Water Supply Bus Tour, hosted by the Association of Water Agencies of Ventura County (AWAVC) and the Ventura County Farm Bureau will be November 4, 2015 from 7am to 4pm. Space is limited and they give preference to those who have not attended the tour in previous years.

Help Plant 150 Trees to Celebrate the City of Ventura’s 150th Birthday!

Ventura Hillsides Conservancy (VHC) is hosting a community Tree Planting Party at the Big Rock Preserve near Foster Park to help kick-off the City of Ventura’s 150th birthday. VHC invites members of all ages to join them from 9am – 12 noon along the Ventura River Parkway to help plant 150 oak trees on property they own and manage.

The Watersheds Coalition of Ventura County (WCVC) General Membership Meeting was all about getting prepared for a wet winter and other potential emergency situations. Funding for Fisheries Restoration Projects

The next Proposition 1 round of funding through the State Coastal Conservancy will be focused on fisheries restoration projects. The solicitation is expected to be released as early as November 1st with applications due around December 31, 2015.
